Export guide
How to export a WhatsApp chat
Two minutes, no media needed. Then drop the file into Allegedly.
Last updated 6 Oct 2026
On an iPhone
- Open the group chat you want to play.
- Tap the group name at the top.
- Scroll down and tap Export Chat.
- Choose Without Media. It's smaller and faster.
- Tap Save to Files, then come back here and choose the file.
Exports arrive as a .zip. That's fine: drop it in as it is.
On an Android phone
- Open the group chat you want to play.
- Tap ⋮ at the top right, then More.
- Tap Export chat.
- Choose Without media.
- Pick Allegedly if you've installed it. Otherwise save it to Files or Drive, then choose it here.
On a computer? Export on your phone, then email it to yourself or save it to cloud storage.
Got the file?
Drop it into Allegedly. Your phone reads it and deals a 10-question game in seconds. Nothing is uploaded.
Not sure you got the right file? The checker reads it on your device and tells you.

Good to know
Is there a limit?
Yes. WhatsApp exports up to the latest 40,000 messages without media, or 10,000 with media. Choose Without media for the biggest game.
Can't see Export chat?
The group probably has Advanced chat privacy switched on, which blocks exports for everyone. To switch it off, open Group info and tap Advanced chat privacy (if only admins can change group settings, ask an admin). Everyone sees a notice when it changes, so ask the group first. It's their chat too.
Got a .zip?
Perfect. Drop the whole zip in and we'll find the chat inside.
Do you upload my chat?
No. Your own browser reads it, on your device, and we never see the game: it travels inside the link, encrypted, so anyone holding the link can open it.
