Terms of use
Last updated 6 Oct 2026
These terms cover Allegedly at allegedly.chat. They are written to be read: short, plain and with no traps. By using Allegedly, you agree to them.
*The short version
- Allegedly is a party game made from your group chat. Your chat is read on your device and never uploaded.
- Only use chats you are part of, ask the group first, and only share a game in the chat it came from.
- Awards and roasts are jokes about chat habits, not facts about anyone.
- While we launch, Awards Night is free. When paid unlocks open, Paddle.com sells them as our reseller, and refunds are easy: 30 days, no questions asked.
Who we are
Allegedly is made and run by Willie Rall, a sole proprietor based in South Africa (“we”, “us”). “You” means anyone who uses Allegedly.
You can reach us at hello@allegedly.chat.
What Allegedly does
You export a group chat (for example with WhatsApp's Export chat) and open the file in Allegedly. Your own device reads it, counts who said what and when, and deals a 10-question game. The game travels inside a link you post back to your group, and everyone plays on their own phone: a score, a Chat Role and Awards Night.
Your chat file is never uploaded to us or anyone else. The privacy policy explains exactly what does and doesn't leave your device. There's no account to make and nothing to install.
Using it fairly
Allegedly only works if people can trust it. So when you use it:
- Only use chats you're part of. Don't use a chat someone else exported, or one you got hold of without being in it.
- Ask your group first. It's their chat too. Make sure the group is happy for it to become a game.
- Only share a game in the chat it came from. A game holds quotes and names from your chat, and anyone with the link can open it. Don't post it publicly or send it to people who weren't in the chat.
- Don't use it to hurt people. No harassment, bullying, shaming or exposing anyone, and nothing that breaks a confidence or the law. Use the tools: veto questions, leave people out, switch on nicknames, keep the spicy filter on.
- Don't misuse the site. No hacking, overloading, scraping or automated abuse, and nothing illegal.
You need to be at least 13 to use Allegedly. If you are under 18, ask a parent or guardian before buying anything. We may limit or refuse access to anyone who breaks these rules.
Your chats and your games
You're responsible for the chats you use and for the games and cards you share. We never see them, so we can't check or remove them for you, and we claim no rights in them. The words in a game belong to the people who wrote them.
Game links can't be called back once they are shared, so check the game before you post it: the host sees every question first and can veto any of them.
Awards, Chat Roles, roasts and stats are for fun. They come from simple counts and timings in the export (who sent the most messages, who replies fastest), and exports can be messy, so they can be wrong. They are not statements of fact or judgements about anyone.
Prices and the launch offer
Free: making and playing games, scores, the Chain, your Chat Role and 3 of the 15 awards.
The launch offer (now): while we launch, Awards Night is free in every game. Tap to open all the awards on your device, with no payment and no card. Cards you share keep a small allegedly.chat mark. We may end the launch offer at any time; awards you have already opened stay open on that device.
Awards Unlock, $2.99 per chat (when payments open): every award for one game, plus the full Awards Night card without the watermark. Anyone in the group can buy it, and it unlocks Awards Night for everyone who opens that game's link. A new game made from the same chat is a new game.
Allegedly Pass, $6.99 one-time (not on sale yet): the full Awards Night, with the full card and no watermark, in every game you open. That is everything it includes today. Things we are planning, such as 25-question Deep Cuts and a Party Night mode, are not part of the Pass and we don't promise them; if we add something, the pricing page will say so.
Prices are listed in US dollars, and at checkout you may see them in your own currency. Either way, you see the final price, including any tax, before you pay.
Payments: Paddle is our reseller
Our order process is conducted by our online reseller Paddle.com. Paddle.com is the Merchant of Record for all our orders. Paddle provides all customer service inquiries and handles returns.
In plain words: when you buy, you buy from Paddle. Paddle takes the payment, adds any sales tax or VAT that applies, sends your receipt and handles refunds, under its own Buyer Terms. The charge on your card statement comes from Paddle (often shown as PADDLE.NET). The unlock happens straight after payment.
Refunds
Not happy? Ask within 30 days of buying for a full refund, no questions asked. The refund policy says how.
WhatsApp and other names
WhatsApp is a trademark of its owner. Allegedly is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by WhatsApp or Meta. We mention WhatsApp only to say which chat exports work.
What we promise, and what we cannot
We work hard to keep Allegedly fun, private and working, but it is provided “as is” and “as available”. We don't promise that it will always be available or free of bugs, or that every quote, stat or award will be right.
Nothing in these terms takes away rights you have by law as a consumer, for example under South Africa's Consumer Protection Act or the consumer laws of the country you live in.
Our liability
As far as the law allows, our total liability to you for anything to do with Allegedly is limited to what you paid for Allegedly in the 12 months before the claim, or US$10 if you have not paid anything. We are not liable for indirect or knock-on losses, or for what other people do with a game link or card that you shared.
We don't exclude or limit liability where the law doesn't allow it, such as for fraud or gross negligence.
Changes
We will update these terms as Allegedly changes. The date at the top shows the latest version, and if a change matters, we will say so on the site before it applies. If you keep using Allegedly after that, the new terms apply. A purchase keeps the terms that applied when you made it.
The law that applies
These terms are governed by the law of South Africa, and the courts of South Africa can hear disputes about them. If you are a consumer living somewhere else, you also keep the protection of your own country's mandatory laws, and you can bring a claim where you live.
If any part of these terms cannot be enforced, the rest still applies.
